Do you love i-Spy art challenges? Birdcage Press makes fabulous series called Close Up – Art Card Games. These decks of cards have children match two cards – one with the complete art piece and the other with a magnified section of the artwork. Multiple types of games can be played, like memory, Go Fish, and Old Maid. You can easily divide a deck into 2-3 groups and have students switch cards to make the games go faster. I love to pull these out for students to play on days that we might finish early or if I’m at a painting station calling students in groups to paint and then return to their seats.
If you can find these games, hold onto them. I have three versions I’ve found:
- CLOSE UP: J. Paul Getty Museum
- CLOSE UP: MoMA The Museum of Modern Art
- CLOSE UP: Museum of Fine Arts, Boston
