How can students learn about artists? Games are a great way to familiarize students with masterpieces! I love these Go Fish sets by Birdcage Press. Each set has different artists and artwork categorized into nine groups. Even though the deck says for ages 7+, I advise previewing each set to ensure they are student-age-appropriate. You may need to remove some of the Renaissance cards to comply with district policies and/or parent expectations.
Go Fish for Card Set Options:
- Go Fish for Van Gogh & Friends
- Go Fish for Modern Artists
- Go Fish for Renaissance Artists
- Go Fish for Ancient Egypt
- Go Fish for Impressionist Artists
What’s in the Box
Each set includes 36 playing cards and a companion book with facts about the artists and artwork. Each card lists the artist’s name, title of artwork, location, and simple description. Each card number set has four varieties of that topic – artist/artwork. You can play go fish, memory, visual connections, concentration, strategic thinking, and art familiarity with masterpieces.
